Intense, dark, thought provoking, terrifying, and virtually impossible to put down.

This was a fabulous read!! Laura Shepherd - Robison has skilfully produce a intense, and intriguing story centred around Captain Henry Corsham, a decorated war hero seeking a new career in politics. He launches his own investigation into the death of his friend Thaddeus Archer. Along the way he deals with some unscrupulous individuals who try to prevent him from reaching the truth, as he unearths unbelievable atrocities.
June, 1781. An unidentified body hangs upon a hook at Deptford Dock – horribly tortured and branded with a slaver’s mark.
This book tackles some really dark topics, and is centred around the slave trade. I feel that Laura tackled this subject in a way that transcribes the nauseating barbarity of the situation, making for uncomfortable, yet compelling reading. Although this book is a work of fiction, but we know all too well that these heinous acts did take place.

I gave this book a 5* rating, it is a vividly atmospheric debut novel, I was sent my copy of the book from Netgalley and Mantle Books in exchange for an honest review....… I did however, purchase a copy and sent it as my Blind book date (yes! I did enjoy it that much). #netgalley #bloodandsugar #laurasheherd-robinson #thriller #bookreview #books
